Today I ran the second in a series of requirements gathering workshops. Afterwards, I drove back to the office and realised that I was not as satisfied with the results as I had been with the first session.
After a little self-analysis, I came to the conclusion that I was particularly happy with the first session because we generated a lot of Post-It notes. The second session merely filled in some of the gaps and completed the breadth of the requirements. I think!
I am still concerned that we do not yet have an entire project team on board. We do not have anyone from the end-user community, I am not sure that we have a proper business ambassador willing to dedicate the requisite time on a daily basis, and I am not convinced that the development team will be big enough. But these are challenges that can be addressed on another day.
Right now I need to bring the end-user into the team, agree the scope and then size the work we have in some way, in order to come up with an estimate of overall effort. And that will be the focus of the next workshop.
