The Social Network for Project Managers

Hello my name is Dennis Nealon and I am new to the field of project management. I am currently enrolled in NYU participating in the certificate program for Project management. Our class project is to create a Facebook page talking
about various conditions and opportunities that arise in the arena.

If anyone would like to participate and post helpful comments that would be great.

NYU Project Management-Facebook.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the areas of project management that might be the most advantageous at the moment. My findings list-1)healthcare 2)green technologies 3) infrastructure

Any thoughts would be welcome....

It appears that the importance of the credential - CAPM, PMP, etc.- is becoming very important.Employers are refusing to confirm anything except an employee's dates of hire and last salary for fear of lawsuit. The only way to confirm the experience you have comes through the credentialling process. PMI is doing a lot right in this area by creating an exam that requires thorough knowledge of the process, the kind that is gained through experience. Our instructor opines that those with less than 5 years' experience in large projects will have a tough time with the PMP exam.

In my class at Austin Community College, we have been told that the PMP credential is required to lead projects for the state of Florida. Given current conditions - unavailability of confirming evidence of information stated on a resume - this is an excellent idea.

We have been told that the healthcare industry is the next frontier for project managers. The industry appears to be structured functionally and in desperate need of help.

Dennis,

I'm new to project management myself and also in a certificate program at San Francisco State.

I think you hit on three big areas that are very important. As I'm currently working in medical device technology, my thoughts have been with IT-related projects for improving health care by making it more streamlined and reducing expenses. There's a strong need for automation and making doctor's lives a bit easier. On the green technologies, I would focus on solar. One of my former colleagues is in China developing new solar technology.

Infrastructure is a very good choice, as we have a lot of highway/Interstate construction and civil engineering projects that need to be done, considering a lot of infrastructure in place is literally falling apart in some places.
