Hi dear group members,wish you all a wonderful Sunday. I recently posted the event "PMO Symposium 2010". It's a 2 day conference with a pre-workshop day. Some 250 participants from all over Europe are expected, dates are Sept. 28-30, venue is Hamburg, Germany. The results of the Europe-wide PMO Maturity Survey 2010 themed "Business Value of a PMO" with 500+ participants will first be presented here. Would appreciate, if you checked out this event.

Thank you so much for your insightful note. I certainly appreciate all your comments and advice and I'll do my best to apply it the best I can.
However, I do am a LinkedIn member. This is how I got to this group and many others. I considered that my LinkedIn profile completes somehow my shorter comment I put on the particular groups.
Regarding your comment about the connecting with prospective automotive employers...this is one thing I am still not so sure if I want to do. Why? Because I am considering changing industries as a possibility, due to the current economic situation in Windsor area. In a way, I try to see what other options I have out-there in the management arena which is an area I feel a real calling for through my personal gifts. I am not so sure about the industry I want to follow.
I would like to be able to keep in touch with you and take advantage of your experience and good advice you certainly can provide. I will be contacting you on LinkedIn.

Marinela;

I read your note, in light of what I said in the statement previous to yours, and have some ideas. But, then, I wondered about your Profile, so I looked. And, now I understand your needs and situation better, and have more comments.

First, congratulations on being proactive and using your time to complete an MS in PM. That is wonderful. About a PM job, you probably realize that it could just be PM in "title." I think what you want may be "the kind of assignments which are truly challenging", require a great deal of interaction with other bright minds for achievement, and also allow you to be responsible for guiding the work of others- which is often what a project engineer/manager might do. I think with all your experience so far, you know what I'm trying to say, about aligning and fitting with with your needs.

Next, your immediate "project" is to connect with a prospective employer by presenting your "can do" experience, and acquired competencies and "sell" yourself as someone who belongs in their organization.

My first thoughts, when I read the comments below were "what about your ME Design background CAN actually benefit the prospective employer, And, during your years with "project level" responsibilities "what kind of group interface meetings- with suppliers, test personnel, manufacturing, QC,purchasing, etc.- did you handle while conducting business for your particular "portion of product real estate?"

The next thing is for someone to help you, maybe you have to help them with "more" data about you. For example, have you ever heard of or tried LinkedIn? I think it may be "geared" more for a business assist request like this than even this "ning" group. This group is more of a social and professional arrangement for idea exchange dialog and learning than what I think you may be looking for (as I understand at the moment upon just joining).

Actually, I'm on LinkedIn, and am here in this group, because after almost a year, it was the first group that was a parent group of the LinkedIn group I wanted to join. And, believe it or not, I started LinkedIn because another superb women ME (in my immediate family) lost her position because of partial shutdowns. In fact she had commuted at one time to Windsor at a plant there. So. I know the job situation in the area. I don't see how it can be much better in WIndsor and SE Ontario with strong US auto affiliations. Did you know that in Detroit there are 46 job applicants for each available job?

Actually, before I read you were in Windsor, I began thinking of Kitchener/Waterloo, and London, and Oshawa, and St. Thomas. You however must have closer contacts than I in all these places.

There is one company that stands out in my mind that is still growing and that is Magna. Did you know they are acquiring Opel. But, that is far away. Yet, they did have a facility around Windsor, as did Fabco. Also, there are all sorts of industries in the area to consider. Seagram is another one, and then a friend at GM in London who went to MIT went to work for the Canadian Railroad there (years ago). So, there is mobility to consider.

I believe I've mentioned aspects that I would consider in your situation, and provided some of the "cues" you would find asking me to go deeper that I did below.

Greetings folks;

I am pleased to join like minded people, who are interested in the accomplishment of change and transformation. And, who wish to create new socio techical arrangements, processes, products and/or productivity- the change, and difference, makers.

My view is that projects are usually time bounded, and do not endure indefinitely- so, they create situations with special opportunities for creativity, teamwork, vitality and high potential results. As groups of highly motivated individuals, arranging accesses to the necessary external human and physical resources demands special attentions from within the team.

With the higher levels of complexity, thought and action involved, the chances are greater for significant advancement and success. Concurrently, the risks involved must be addressed with utmost care, smarts and intelligences.

Thank you for creating this group with an unprecedented show of commitment to this "subject". And I look forward to exploring many additional thoughts and learning new concepts (including, of course, best practices), from all of you.
